AME Systems (Vic) is a key contributor to the region’s economy employing a growing workforce in excess of 350 staff at this time. The majority live locally within Ararat and district, however others travel from Ballarat, Stawell, Avoca and even as far as Warrnambool daily.
On an annual basis the workforce alone injects approximately $15 million into the region’s economy in addition to the company investing dollars by supporting local suppliers, traders, accommodation and hospitality businesses on a regular basis.
From what started out as a garage business in Melbourne in the mid ‘70’s with only a small team AME Systems (Vic) has developed today into a major Australian owned world class business that manufactures quality electrical wiring harnesses, power and signal distribution systems for heavy transport, automobiles, military equipment, special purpose vehicles, motorcycles, marine craft, aircraft and fixed electrical plant.
With the focus on providing quality products and services to our increasing customer base the company has a big emphasis on extensive and intensive training for all new staff joining the business so as to develop a strong foundation for success.
Over the past twelve months AME System has taken a closer look at what it currently does and how effective they are meeting the changing needs of their customers. Importantly they have realised they need to position themselves as a capable, reliable and sustainable business in an increasingly competitive market with threats from both local and overseas manufacturers.
AME Systems (Vic) is also looking at diversifying the business and have been looking at all opportunities that present including supplying harnesses into the rail market with successful gaining of work with global company Alstom. This product in the main will be delivered to Ballarat for new trains.
Additionally, AME Systems (Vic) can now boast that they are one of few manufacturers of the Adblue tube harnessing in Australia. New emissions regulations currently being introduced will see the Urea Exhaust Emission Control process become common on all diesel engines in the future to meet the requirements of the EURO emission laws resulting in further opportunities for AME Systems to service new and existing customers within the industry.
AdBlue solutions reduce the nitrogren oxides in the exhaust gas systems of heavy duty vehicles including trucks, buses, tractors, high powered cars, vans and off road vehicles. Also vehicle body builders, OEM manufacturers together with manufacturers of diesel generators and diesel water pumps are just a few of many who will all be required to meet the emission laws.
Despite the pressures on Australian manufacturing businesses to remain sustainable AME Systems (Vic) is determined to stay and maintain their local presence in Ararat.
In reinforcing a strong ‘local’ message General Manager Dean Pinniger said; “Our biggest priorities are to look after our people and at the same time remain competitive, sustainable and diversify the business where possible so that we can provide employment in the region. Every-day when you see a Kenworth truck travelling the Western Highway through the township it’s a timely reminder that there goes another ‘wire harness’ made here in Ararat at AME Systems. I believe that manufacturing in Australia is very important and it is the basis for a lot of communities. By providing employment, this in turn provides dollars into the community.”
This year Ararat Manufacturing Enterprises – AME Systems (Vic) Pty Ltd celebrate 20 years of operations under this name at their Ararat premises, 18 Gordon Street, Ararat.
